«Boom» per l’ACB a Girona

Girona’s return to the ACB League 14 years later has sparked a real “boom” in the city. It could be sensed with the euphoric response of the fans, selling out season tickets in less than 24 hours (4,200), and it has been seen with the magnificent tickets that have been registered in Fontajau in the first seven days played so far . The average of these matches is 4,911 spectators, that is to say, close to full, because the pavilion has a capacity of 5,200 with the chairs at the foot of the court, a much higher figure than, for example, the Akasvayu in his last season in the top category of Spanish basketball. Then the first 7 days only gathered 4,271 fans on average, 700 less than now.

“We are very happy, the response is fantastic. It was already seen in the summer with the season tickets and also now with the atmosphere that is experienced in Fontajau in every match”, point out sources from the club. It has been possible, with the organization of activities parallel to the games, to arouse the interest of not only basketball fans. “We offer a show for all audiences, for example this week, on Saturday, against Bilbao, there will be a performance by Barjots Dunkers at half-time, making an exhibition of stunts, and at night season ticket holders who have come to the match will be able free access to Platea». The forecast is that the match against Bilbao will once again have a magnificent start and that, on January 28, against Barça, there will be an absolute full house. There are no seats left, and only the option for a subscriber to free up their seat.

This season, 5,000 spectators have been exceeded three times: against Madrid, UCAM Murcia and Joventut. And the worst entry was against Breogan, with 4,648 fans. Fourteen years ago, Akasvayu, in the first seven days, had a better peak of supporters with the visit of Barça (4,823), and three times it did not even reach 4,000 (Pamesa, Estudiantes and Gran Canària). Another element to consider is that during that period the club used to have a wide sleeve when it came to giving away tickets, which is not the case now. Anyone who enters Fontajau is because they have purchased their locality or subscription, giving value to the product.

Waiting list

In the summer when the club stopped the subscription campaign because it wanted to reserve a package of tickets to sell a waiting list was opened. Today there are almost 600 people signed up and the trickle doesn’t stop. And that the sports results are not for throwing rockets, despite the reaction of the last matches. Girona has only won 5 games, three of them in Fontajau (UCAM, Zaragoza and Joventut).

The “boom” that is being felt in Girona for the return to the ACB is also clear with the presence of more and more fans on the trips. The club, for weeks, has been offering seats to season ticket holders if they are offered by the rival team.
