BFC Dynamo gets old logo back

For a long time, BFC Dynamo played with an unfamiliar emblem on their chest. Now the Berlin club is returning to its roots. Apparently it wasn’t cheap.

Ten championship titles in a row: BFC Dynamo was the record champions in the GDR and was one of the most successful clubs in the country for years. After reunification, however, the club from the Hohenschönhausen district of Berlin also went through long difficult times. The team is currently playing in the Regionalliga Nordost and is in 10th place.

After all, the club celebrated its 57th birthday just a few days ago – and has now presented its fans with a very special gift: BFC Dynamo will be back with its traditional logo on the chest from the coming season. This was confirmed by BFC Economic Council boss Peter Meyer to the “Berliner Kurier”. “Now comes home what belongs at home,” the newspaper quoted the club maker as saying.

From 2023/24, the team will once again have the logo from the great days: a white “D” on a wine-red background under the three red and yellow letters “BFC”, framed by a golden wreath of leaves.

Since 2009, the BFC had had to play with a different emblem that fans didn’t like – out of necessity. Because the original logo had been in third-party ownership since the early 1990s – in order to obtain the license to play in the individual divisions, however, a club must be in possession of its logos and trademark rights. The result: A Berlin bear in front of a red and white background, embedded in a wide black ring with the inscription “Berliner Fußball Club Dynamo 1966” and several other red, white and black rings on the outside.

So now the return to the classic logo. According to “Kurier”, however, the comeback will not be cheap: According to the report, the BFC had to raise a six-figure sum.
