BASKETBALL – Champions Cup without reinforcements, only locals

The first Champions Cup, which will be played from February 1 to 5 at the Virgilio Travieso Soto Sports Palace, aims to develop the top tournaments and in no way seeks to weaken the other tournaments that make up the local competition system.

This is expressed by the president of the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal), Rafael Uribe, who said that it will serve as a showcase for players, especially from the interior of the country, to exhibit their talent.

“It will have a format like what Centrobasket used to be, from Wednesday to Friday a qualifying phase with semifinals on Saturday and the final on Sunday,” he added.

He clarified that the teams will be composed of 50 percent of members of the champion team and 50 percent of others who have played in the tournament of each province. This contest will not have the participation of reinforcements, neither foreign nor national, only with local talent.

The participants will be the Bameso club (National District), Virgilio Castillo -Chola- (La Romana), Parque Hostos (La Vega), Don Bosco (Espaillat, Moca), Correcaminos de la Parte Baja (Puerto Plata), Gregorio Urbano Gilbert ( Santiago), San Martín de Porres (San Francisco de Macorís) and Los Laguneros (San Cristóbal).
