Arsenal strengthened their lead in the Premier League on Sunday. ‘The Gunners’ won the London derby against Tottenham Hotspur 0-2, partly due to a blunder by Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. Partly thanks to an assist from Hakim Ziyech, Chelsea again won.
Arsenal took the lead after fifteen minutes due to a blunder by Lloris. The Frenchman worked Bukayo Saka’s cross from the right into his own goal. It was the goalkeeper’s first own goal in 354 Premier League matches.
After that too, Arsenal was the better team at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. That resulted nine minutes before the break in Martin Ødegaard’s 0-2. The Norwegian found the target with a hard slider of more than 20 meters.
Tottenham came close to scoring early in the second half, but Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale reversed Ryan Sessegnon’s effort. Even after that, Ramsdale prevented it from getting tense in London with a number of nice saves.
After the final whistle, things got out of hand for a while. Ramsdale first got into an argument with Spurs striker Richarlison and was then kicked behind goal by a home club supporter as he reached for his water bottle. It led to a scuffle involving many players, trainers and stewards.
Thanks to the victory, Arsenal is even more firmly in the lead. The team of coach Mikel Arteta is eight points ahead of Manchester City, which lost the derby against coach Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United 2-1 on Saturday. Tottenham are fifth.

Chelsea wins again thanks to Ziyech’s assist
Earlier in the day, Chelsea won 1-0 against Crystal Palace. Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the game at Stamford Bridge. The German headed in halfway through the second half from a measured cross from Ziyech, who participated until a minute before the end.
Chelsea booked the first win since December 27 (2-0 win over Bournemouth). Then coach Graham Potter’s team played a draw at Nottingham Forest (1-1) and lost to Manchester City (0-1) and Fulham (2-1). In between, City was much too strong in the FA Cup (4-0).
Despite the victory over Crystal Palace, Chelsea remain tenth in the table. The backlog of ‘The Blues’ on leader Arsenal, which has played one game less, is no less than nineteen points. During the game with Crystal Palace, Chelsea also announced the arrival of Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk.
Newcastle United moved up to third place thanks to a 1-0 win over Fulham. Former Willem II striker Alexander Isak gave his team the win with a late goal. Aleksandar Mitrovic previously missed a penalty for Fulham. Sven Botman (Newcastle) and Kenny Tete (Fulham) both completed the ninety minutes.
