This week it became clear that Andretti will be teaming up with Cadillac to create an F1 team for years to come. It is not yet clear who will supply the engines to the team, but it is the next puzzle piece in a puzzle that Honda, Red Bull and Porsche are also part of. Honda is named as a supplier of Andretti and could therefore perhaps look less at Red Bull.

Andretti is now a possible partner for Porsche and Honda, which is still looking for a supplier. Yet the name of Renault in particular is often mentioned as a supplier for the team, which will all but officially be part of the sport from 2024 or 2025. The question then is what Honda and Porsche, who have both signed the 2026 regulations and registered as suppliers, will do if Renault does indeed become the team’s supplier. The options are not increasing in number.

Red Bull

The biggest fish that both parties can still catch is Red Bull, which wants to try to make and supply its own engines with Red Bull Powertrains in 2026. Nevertheless, it is also considering taking on a partner and talks have already been held with several parties. For Porsche, which wants a lot of influence in the collaboration with another party, the talks with Red Bull came to nothing. In that respect, Red Bull only seems to be an option for Honda, especially since both parties have a good history and are currently working together until the end of 2025. Especially since Honda has registered for 2026, this option has become more realistic.

Current F1 teams

Sauber is already off the market, because it will work with Audi as a supplier from 2026, and the other teams that are now active in Formula 1 don’t really seem like an option either. The situation at Red Bull and AlphaTauri is known, while Ferrari and Mercedes provide engines themselves. Haas and Alpine have Ferrari and Renault as suppliers respectively and do not seem to be an option either, while Aston Martin and Williams with Mercedes as a supplier will also be satisfied given the reliability in 2022. Then there will be zero teams left. Unless AlphaTauri suddenly decides to be a team even more on its own compared to Red Bull or another team in the back of the field decides to break with the current supplier, Honda and Porsche do not seem to see this as an option.

New squad

A new team, like Andretti’s, is an option. At Andretti it seems to be Renault or Honda as a supplier. Formula 1 announced a process earlier this week, looking at how many parties are interested in forming an F1 team. These teams will also need suppliers for this, and that is of course interesting for Porsche and Honda. In that respect, both parties will hope that this will become a second realistic option in addition to Red Bull.
