2023 New Year Greetings from Chairman Shinji Shimada | Japan Professional Basketball League

Happy New Year.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the extraordinary kindness that I have received during the past year, and I sincerely hope that everyone will continue to play an active role.
At the beginning of the year 2023, I would like to extend my heartfelt New Year’s greetings.

Last year, B.LEAGUE was able to enter its 7th season. This is all thanks to the warm support of our fans and the tremendous support of our partner companies. I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude.
Many fans have come to the match venue this season as well, but we will continue to ask you to watch the match according to the new coronavirus infectious disease control guidelines set by B.LEAGUE, and we apologize for the inconvenience. We are here. Despite these restrictions, we will continue to welcome everyone with a complete system so that you can enjoy basketball safely and securely.

This year, in January, we will be holding the “Dot Estee B.LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME 2023 IN MITO” for the first time in three years. While following the government’s corona countermeasures policy, we will expand the range of loud cheers that have been allowed in a limited way and relax the restrictions. Cheering such as shouting continuously will continue to be prohibited, but we will make every effort to return to normal as soon as possible and satisfy all of our fans. In addition, the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 will be held in Okinawa in August. As a local ambassador, B.LEAGUE will support the irreplaceable moment when the Japanese national team players are competing against the world.

B.LEAGUE will be reborn from the 2026-27 season. The so-called new B1, which is a future concept, will be reviewed from this season, and in various places, not only basketball games but also new arenas that are highly entertaining and can be used for business and contribute to the community are being constructed one after another. We are working together to make preparations.

This year as well, B.LEAGUE is determined to push forward every day to convey the appeal of basketball throughout Japan. I would like to ask for your continued support and encouragement this year as well.
