Wilmar Roldán could win the award for the best referee in the world: absent from the Qatar World Cup | Other Football Leagues

One of the great surprises for Colombian soccer in the World Cup in Qatar, which they did not qualify for, was the absence of Wilmar Roldán, the referee with the most experience and international prestige in the country.

The decision of the arbitration commission of the Colombian Football Federation was to leave him out for the benefit of Andrés Rojas, John Ospina and Nicolás Gallo (VAR).

Well now it seems that his revenge would come because, after that hard blow, the man from Antioquia was included in the list of 25 nominees for the Best Referee in the World in 2022 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

Roldán is one of the seven South Americans, along with the Argentines Facundo Tello, Fernando Rapallini and Patricio Loustau, the Brazilian Wilton Sampaio, the Uruguayan Esteban Ostojich and the Venezuelan Jesús Valenzuela. Although there is no guarantee that he will win and he knows that they are at a disadvantage compared to the World Cup, his name on the list is already a small victory.
