WC football | Spend five billion for the World Cup? Madhouse! Poborský was shocked by the budget, then praised

Before kick-off, there was a lot of talk about whether Qatar could handle the organization of the football holiday. According to Poborský, basically everything went well. “It must have been great for the press and the players. They took the metro to another stadium and in two hours saw another match. From that point of view, it was great,” praises the former representative. It must be remembered that the next championship will be the exact opposite of this year’s. The World Cup will be hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico, and everyone will enjoy traveling a lot.

According to Poborský, the fact that the tournament takes place at the turn of November and December has proven to be a good idea. “It turned out that the World Cup can be played in winter. The players are at full strength, they haven’t had their long-term peaks behind them, and so they don’t have to kick themselves to the top again in the form of the World Cup. This is the most important message for me,” he finds another huge plus.

But the legend of Czech football also saw a number of blemishes. At first glance, everything looks rosy, but the reality can be quite different. “Censorship is huge there, no one knows what information has not reached us,” says the first dig into the host country. And what about when it comes to the finances that the championship swallowed.

“If the Qatar tournament cost five trillion, that’s two years of the Czech Republic, that’s something terrible when you consider the price-performance ratio,” Poborský shakes his head.

It is clear to him that Qatar wanted to advertise itself with the championship and was not looking at any finances. “I understand that financially it is probably an unlimited country. Otherwise, anyone who looks at it with a sober mind must say that it’s crazy,” adds the former excellent midfielder, who played for Slavia Prague and Sparta during his career, as well as for Manchester United and Lazio Rome.
