Spa: 8th edition of the Yonex-BJMC International Youth Tournament

December 17, 2022 6:00 p.m. | Spa

The only French-speaking tournament of the Yonex circuit of the Belgian badminton federation took place this weekend in Spa, for the eighth time. Compared to last year, the organizers have seen an increase in registrations. But out of 86 registered here in Spa, there were only 9 girls. A rather alarming finding, especially since two of them have withdrawn. Unfortunately, this tournament is not an isolated case.

Among the players, there were several promises who are following their training at CEFES, the Center de Formation d’Espoirs Sportifs. This is the case for example of Loïc Gosset, recent vice-champion of Belgium in doubles in the u15 category. One of the female headliners in u15 was Auriane Vasilevski, affiliated with RBC Verviers but who is also following her training at CEFES. She also won the singles tournament in her category, in u15. But for this she had to play only two matches, because there were only 3 girls in her category.

This tournament, which concerns young people from u11 to u17, was also an opportunity for some players from the region to come and improve their skills. We also found players from our neighboring countries, even if Françoise Kaiser notes the difficulty of advertising outside the borders. (Nicolas Lesecque)
