VIDEO ⟩ How a Latvian won a historic victory in the world karting championship

Kristaps has been in karting all his life, but he completed the last race before his historic success in 2016 in Italy. The “Rotax” competition is his first big start after a five-year break, and the competition coincided with his 32nd birthday, when he won among 36 national and international championships from other countries. All drivers had the same technique and were given five practices or 50 laps before qualifying, thus the best of the best won.

The emotions after the victory, which will lead to a lifetime, are difficult to describe. Kristaps’ father, Erik Gasparović, well-known in the karting world, tells Paul Timrot that he had not cried for a long time and experienced such feelings as in Portugal. Eric has always helped his son so that the athlete could follow this path, and as one of the biggest trump cards, he singles out precisely his youth and experience base, which allowed him to win the victory wisely. The support of friends and fans, who helped with advice to adapt to the situation together, was also of great importance.

Paul admits that he envies Kristaps because as an adult he is fulfilling his childhood dream both on the track and working as a go-kart mechanic and trainer in Kuwait, Bahrain and other parts of the world. We will find out how this is possible and where Kristaps’ sports career will lead in the new episode of the program.
