Van Assche “would like to get into the top 100 before Roland-Garros”

During an interview on the French Tennis Federation’s YouTube channel with Emilie Loit, Luca Van Assche first explained that he did not set himself ranking and results objectives before saying everything about it. even a little bit more about his ambitions.

“I would like to get into the top 100 before Roland-Garros,” conceded the 18-year-old player ranked 137th in the world.

When Loit then asked him for his three tennis wishes for Santa Claus in 2023, the young Frenchman replied that he would like to “return to a Challenger at the start of the year, have a Grand Slam round and make a half or a final. on an ATP 250.”

I focus on the physical

To do this, Luca Van Assche is preparing this off-season at the national training center in Paris.

“I focus on the physical, I also work tennis obviously but I do a big physical block now because it’s harder to work on during the year.”

The 2021 junior Roland-Garros winner had an excellent end to the season in 2022. In the last two months of the season, he played four Challenger finals and won one in Maia in Portugal. These results allowed him to gain 152 places in the ATP rankings over the period.

He explains this avalanche of good results in a simple way, “I’ve made a lot of progress mentally, I’m a little calmer.”

This progression allowed him to obtain the wild card offered by the French Tennis Federation to play the main draw of the Australian Open next January.

“It’s huge to be able to play the final draw in Australia. It’s the first time I’m going there so it will be a great experience and I’m going to make the most of it and honor my wildcard as best I can.”

“My program for the start of the season is to challenge Camberra and the week after I am registered in Adelaide and Auckland, we will see where I will go, then the Australian Open.”
