Unión came to this match after the two defeats in a row on the road (against Argentino (66-55) and Obras (80-69), the local coached by Federico Fernández with much more rest, eight days after the last presentation in this same stage when it outscored San Lorenzo 80-48.
The Tate, even without the presence of captain Maximiliano Martín due to a sprained ankle, bet on the same starting five as in the previous match made up of Juan Pablo Cantero, Mateo Bolivar, Jeantal Cylla, Ayan Carvalho and Ignacio Alessio.
The first conversion came from the hands of Carvalho with a penetrating double. After this the game with several inaccuracies at the beginning, possessions of both without converting and good defenses in both formations.
Union concentrated and plugged in defense in the first moments lowered the annotations to the local that took more than three minutes to be able to convert. Crossing the partial meridian, Ferro got two free kicks at the low post to shorten the gap on the scoreboard. And with three minutes to go, the score was even.
Within a very even match, Ponce understanding the heat and the accumulated fatigue of the tour began to rotate the team. The parity within the partial lasted until the end, and only due to some distractions in the Tatengues exits, the home owner went ahead at the first break.
Returning to the game, Unión came out better, conquered good defenses at the start and with an 8-0 run they took the lead, although the downside of this passage was that the foreigner Merchant quickly reached three accumulated personal fouls.
The local coach, noticing the weak start of Verdolaga, went to timeout. Union continued stretching until it was time for long shots.
A pure three-pointer from both sides turned the game on. To highlight the great defensive work of Nicolás Reynoso, in both zones painted by the Cuban Bombino and Gastón Bertona in the gestation, the three coming from the bench and being fundamental participants in the Santa Fe comeback. Unión continued the good defensive work, made good decisions and safe shots on offense to stretch the gap in the light and force a new minute requested by the locals.
At the end of the first half, Unión had the chance to stretch, although again dubious rulings by the shortlist of referees made the difference five before halftime.
Returning to the Union game with the same quintet that at the beginning fell asleep in the first and allowed Bettiga’s easy layup. After this, two scores in a row from Alessio returned control of the scoreboard.
Fourth that happened very quickly, with low scoring from both, two teams predisposed to defend. Unión lost verticality and entered the physical game that Ferro proposed to him.
With just over two minutes to go in the quarter, the hosts took the lead by two points and forced Ponce’s minute. At the end of this two triples in a row by Bolívar and Cantero allowed Unión to take the lead again. The closing of the quarter was with the Santa Fe squad trying to score from the collectives, although complicated with the strong defense of the Buenos Aires team, and suffering from distance shots. Relentless Lucas Arn at home with 4/4 in triples in this passage.
Already in the last quarter, the local came out better, in two plays they took control of the light and wrapped the Rojiblanco in a bunch of doubts. Ponce took note and sent Bombino to the field, Cantero with a triple reversed the score and Bolívar completed with a double.
The local coach did not like it, he went to his time-out and when he returned to the game the game went back and forth, changing, with details and in which Ferro was finer, took advantage of his moments and ended up winning.
End of the second tour for the Santa Fe team, which unlike the previous one returns with other sensations, especially for what they did against Obras and today against Verdolaga.
Now it will be necessary to close the year in the best way with three home games, the first against Peñarol de Mar del Plata next Tuesday.
