This is Intercity, Barça’s rival and the first Spanish club to be listed on the stock market

The draw for the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey has provided the confrontation of Barcelona with the Intercity, a First RFEF club that in 2021 went down in history by becoming the first Sports Public Limited Company to be listed on the stock market. Salvador Martí and Javier Mira, top leaders of the Alicante club, culminated with this process the aspiration that began in 2017, when they bought the GCD Sant Joan place in the First Valencian Regional. In just five years of existence they have achieved four promotions, although this year they occupy relegation places in Group 2.

Intercity went public with a reference price of 1.20 euros per share, and in a few days it reached its maximum price: 2 euros. Since then it has suffered a constant drop in the price that brought it to a minimum of 0.09 euros per share on November 10. This Friday, after finding out about the pairing with Barcelona, its price shot up more than 25% to close at 0.39 euros. Even so, its annual profitability in 2022 is -65.12%, and its capitalization has been reduced from the 4.1 million euros with which it started to the current 1.9 million.

These numbers have a lot to do with the club’s income statement, which despite promotions on the pitch presents red numbers financially. 2021 closed it with losses of 2,300,000 euros. The income did not reach 400,000 euros.

The shareholding is very distributed. None of the nearly 1,400 members exceeds 5%. Among the best known is juanfran torres. The former Atlético player is now sports vice president, and was also in charge of giving the first assessment of the club after the tie against Xavi Hernández’s team was known. «He has touched us with a rival that we were very excited about and both for the club and for the city it is a spectacular prize. Xavi, Busquets and Jordi Alba have been rivals and teammates in the national team. Right now they are friends and to face them again from another perspective, I am very excited ».

Juanfran also confirmed that Intercity will request to play this cup tie at the Rico Perez instead of in the Antonio Solana, his usual stadium with a capacity for only 2,500 spectators. Thus they could increase the influx to the party up to 29,500 fans. If the permit was not obtained, they would try it with the Martínez Valero de Elche (31,388 spectators).

Intercity is trained by the Argentine Gustav Siviero, and has in its squad several players who went through the Barcelona academy, such as Oriol Soldevila, Guillem Jaime, Carlos Carmona, Benja or Pol Roigé.
