Keith Thompson, former Oviedo striker, cannot hide his joy at the blue victory in the derby. “It has been very important to win the three points, we needed them a lot,” says the former Carbayón player, who saw “a very even match, with Sporting who had more chances”, but who ultimately opted for a penalty. “For me it was quite clear, you can see that he stepped on him,” says the Englishman.
“Both teams defended very well, but when it came to attacking they weren’t so fluid,” said Thompson, who believed that both teams were “playing to waste time, which meant that there were very few chances.” For the English striker there was no clear dominator of the game, since there was a lack of quality in the last third of the field to make a difference.
“We must highlight the great work of the team. If I had to stay with someone, it would be Lucas, who is always very regular, and the central defenders, but the team was very good,” summarizes Thompson.
