The Catalan Federation announced today that next year Catalonia will host two W125 category tournaments, the lowest on the WTA calendar but which at the same time is superior to the ITF circuit and, therefore, represents a step forward for Catalan tennis. The first test scheduled from May 1 to 7 will take place in Reus Monterols, while the second will be held in Girona. The Solgironès of CT La Bisbal d’Empordàwho was an ITF W100 this season, will host the second tournament the week of June 5.
The tournaments are born from the strategic alliance between the FCT and the General Secretariat of Sport and Physical Activity of the Generalitat de Catalunya to promote women’s sport and, at the same time, provide value and bring top-level tennis closer throughout the territory.
