Team boss Vasseur leaves Alfa Romeo

Dhe backing of chairs among the Formula 1 team bosses continues. The Frenchman Frédéric Vasseur is leaving Alfa Romeo in January 2023. This was announced by the racing team, which will start as an Audi factory team from 2026, on Tuesday. The 54-year-old has been the favorite to succeed Mattia Binotto at Ferrari for weeks. The Italian left the Scuderia at the end of November.

“I’m proud of the work we’ve done together as a team and as a company, and even more proud of the solid foundation we’ve laid for the future,” said Vasseur, who took over as manager of the Hinwil, Switzerland-based racing team in 2017 and led the team back into the Formula 1 midfield.

Will Seidl follow Vasseur?

Andreas Seidl, currently team boss at McLaren, is being traded as Vasseur’s successor at the Sauber racing team – Alfa Romeo is merely the name sponsor. The 46-year-old Bavarian is no stranger to Hinwil. Between 2000 and 2009 he worked for BMW in Formula 1, in the then BMW-Sauber-Team he was employed in the test and racing team.

The post of team boss is currently vacant in three of the ten Formula 1 racing teams after Williams announced the separation from Jost Capito after almost two years on Monday. The 64-year-old German took office in 2021. Technical director François-Xavier Demaison is also making his post available.

Williams Racing will announce its new team boss and technical director in due course, it said. “It has been a great privilege to lead Williams Racing for the last two seasons and to lay the foundation to get the great team back on track,” Capito said in the statement.
