There would have been no scandal if the Costa Ricans had led by three goals at the end of the first half. Better back in the game than his opponent of the day, Le Goff very quickly put his people in orbit by taking back a ball dropped by Jouade, the goalkeeper Messacois (0-1, 23 ‘).
Mandiouban worsened the score a few minutes later by recovering a ball in the box against an apathetic Bretillian defense (0-2, 27 ‘). Then, the Loudéaciens harvested several situations that would have put them out of harm’s way, first by Le Ho (28′), then Mandiouban (34′) and finally Le Guel (36’).
Loudeac wronged?
The Messacois came back in the second half with other intentions. Moukoko quickly put his team back in the match with a header from close range (1-2, 50′). Much in demand in the second half, Macé, the Loudéacien goalkeeper, held off the inevitable for a long time (52′, 47′, 77′) and was even saved by his post on a missed Moukoko (58′). On a contentious hand from Gauthier, Guipry-Messac ended up getting a penalty that Nkassa converted without flinching (2-2, 85′).
Frédéric Le Galliard, the Loudéacien coach, was very annoyed at the end of the match: “In my opinion there is a refereeing error (on the penalty). The concern about this match is that we didn’t know how to score the third goal and that it is crucial in a football match. The goal after returning from the locker room changed things in people’s minds. The equalizer is absolutely not stolen but I would have liked it not to be such a fact of the game.
