Giovanna Scoccimarro competes at the Masters in Jerusalem at the end of the year. Just a few weeks earlier, the judoka from Lessien failed in the first round of the Grand Slam in Tokyo.
Lessin/Jerusalem – One is still going: Around ten months after her cruciate ligament rupture and just a few weeks after her Grand Slam comeback in Japan, Giovanna Scoccimarro is back on the mat. At the end of the year, the judoka from Lessien will compete at the Masters in Jerusalem today, Tuesday, December 20th.
Scoccimarro hasn’t quite digested the loss of the first round on her return to Tokyo against the Swede Ida Eriksson: “That annoyed me very, very much. I watched the fight again and should have gotten a lot more out of the lot.” After almost two weeks to digest, she sees her performance in the overall picture: “You always hope that you will come back and everything is the same as always. But I was injured and couldn’t train.” In addition, the subsequent training camp in Japan was very good. “Usually you go to training and know the people. It’s a bit of a habit. It’s good to have other partners from time to time.”
Especially with regard to the fighting in Jerusalem. There, the judo ace from MTV Vorsfelde wants to show a different face than in Japan: “I have to be able to retrieve my old judo again. I can’t have any brackets to show attacking judo, which is what sets me apart.” Then it could be a good tournament. However, Scoccimarro has not set himself a fixed goal: “I would like to have a placement. That means places one to seven.” She wanted to approach the task “realistically”. However, the Lessin native would not spurn a win as the first, early Christmas present. On the contrary, of course: “I would take the victory with a kiss.” Over the holidays (the return flight is not until December 23), Scoccimarro will first have to relax.
