The French Tennis Federation continues the modernization of the stadium Roland-Garros with the layout of the roof on the court Suzanne Lenglen, which will be operational for the tournament of Roland-Garros 2024 and the Paris Games. Lhe first significant stage of this major work has just been completed with the positioning (shifting) of the metal framework.

Roland-Garros and the new silhouette of Suzanne-Lenglen

Installation of the roof on the Lenglen for 2024

In a stadium Roland-Garros in perpetual evolution, the new silhouette of the court Suzanne Lenglen begins to take shape. The two side elements of the metal frame now rest on their pillars. This complex phase, which takes up many technical challenges, consisted in moving over a length of 25 meters, these side elements measuring 100 meters long and 18 meters wide, and weighing approximately 400 tonnes.

Launched in July 2021, this leading project, fully respecting the provisional schedule, will continue until March 2023 with in particular the installation of the storage box for the cover, and the various mechanisms. The last phase of this project, which will begin after the 2023 edition of the Roland-Garros, will see the installation of the fabric constituting the mobile cover. This project, carried out under the direction of the French architect and town planner Dominique Perrault, will integrate harmoniously into the environment of the stadium and will be part of an environmental and societal approach. This new roof will sublimate the singular architecture of the Suzanne-Lenglen court by giving the impression of being in levitation above the court and the stands. The mobile cover will be made of canvas and will be inspired by the pleated skirt created by Jean Patou for Suzanne Lenglen. This book thus pays a beautiful tribute to the champion, pioneer of women’s tennis, who embodied French elegance so well.
