Rafa Nadal was one of the protagonists of the As del Deporte Awards 2022, a gala that was held this Tuesday night and in which the Mallorcan Rudy Fernández, captain of the Spanish basketball team that won the Eurobasket, was also distinguished.
The Mallorcan tennis player received one of the As Sports Awards, in recognition of his career in a year 2022 in which he won 2 Grand Slam tournaments (Australia and Roland Garros) and chained 20 victories. An abdominal injury prevented him from qualifying for Wimbledon and the US Open, in a final stretch of the season in which he was also a father (his son was born in October). “For me it is a gift to continue competing at 36 years old”said Nadal, who added: “I want to especially thank AS for the Award, it makes me very excited.”
