Qatar 2022 World Cup: Female Supporters Feel Safer thanks to Prohibition on Alcohol Drinks Page all

KOMPAS.com – According to some parties, the 2022 Qatar World Cup needs to be an example for organizing football tournaments elsewhere.

One of the reasons for this statement was the impact of the rules prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages around the stadium.

Had been protested by a number of parties, in fact, many people also appreciated this decision, including female supporters who witnessed the 2022 World Cup match in Qatar.

Many women say a ban on the sale of liquor near football stadiums helps reduce the atmosphere of hostility during matches.

No sexual harassment or sexism

Ellie Moloson, one of the English female supporters who was present in person at the 2022 World Cup, admitted that she was worried about going to Qatar.

However, his worries proved unfounded after he came directly to watch the 2022 World Cup match in Qatar.

“I have to say that coming here (2022 World Cup Qatar) was a complete shock,” Moloson told The Timesquoted from Doha News, Tuesday (6/12/2022).

According to him, while in Qatar, he did not accept sexual harassment and sexism in any form, even though the country was under intensive surveillance for alleged “discrimination” against women.

He admits that his initial hunch was wrong, but that the stadium was friendlier than he expected, especially with the World Cup being so carefully managed.

Now, many other Three Lions female fans believe the 2022 World Cup should serve as a model for the game and football culture in England.

“I was prejudiced about what I would encounter (in Qatar),” said Moloson.

“Reality is not like that. I didn’t experience the abuse I experienced in England. I don’t know how they (Qatar) achieved that, but it was an amazing experience to have,” he said.

The same thing was conveyed by another supporter, Jo Glover, who has participated in the World Cup finals since South Africa in 2010.

He said, Qatar’s 2022 World Cup also had no acts of racism. Everyone can comfortably wear costumes with the uniform colors of their respective countries.

“Here (2022 Qatar World Cup) there is no racism. Everyone is wearing their (team) colors and there is no fuss,” he said.

Passionate, but friendly

Senior British police officer Mark Roberts said the absence of hooliganism in Qatar should be evidence that the British Government should not relax its ban on the sale of alcohol in football stadiums.

“Excited, but friendly,” said Roberts of his views on the atmosphere at the World Cup in Qatar.

Roberts emphasized that the absence of alcoholic beverages in the stadium did not reduce the fun and relaxed feeling of providing support at a football match.

As is known, FIFA and the host of the 2022 World Cup, Qatar, revised the rules for selling beer in the stadium area and announced this through their official website on Friday (18/11/2022).

In its statement, FIFA said that the sale of alcohol during the 2022 World Cup will only be at certain points, but not on the outer perimeter of the stadium.

According to the statement, sales of beer will be focused at the FIFA Fan Festival and several other licensed venues.

“A decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the FIFA Fan Festival, other fan destinations and licensed venues, as well as remove the selling point of beer from the perimeter of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar stadium,” FIFA wrote.

“Host country authorities and FIFA will continue to ensure that the stadium and its surroundings provide an exhilarating, respectful and enjoyable experience for all fans.”
