Power hitter Michael Varga hired by the Brock

BASEBALL. Drummondville Brock fans will be able to see American power hitter Michael Varga at work at the Jacques-Desautels stadium during the 2023 season.

The one who plays mainly at the position of receiver has signed a contract as an international player with the formation of the Major League Baseball of Quebec (LBMQ). The 25-year-old right-handed hitter will be called upon to play an important role in the Brock’s offensive lineup.

Having made the leap to the professionals in 2019, Michael Verga has notably evolved in Belgium, Australia, Austria and the Czech Republic over the years. Last season he played in Santa Fe, New Mexico in the Pecos independent league. Everywhere he went he showed he could hit the ball with power. The Connecticut native is also involved as a personal trainer.

“Michael Varga is a true leader showing great maturity. We mentioned it at the end of last season: we were looking for a professional, serious player who can take the organization to another level. Varga brings together all these qualities, ”said the president of Brock and responsible for recruiting international players, Mathieu Audet.

From 2017 to 2019, Michael Verga studied with the Presbyterian College team in South Carolina. This training evolves in the first division of the NCAA, within the famous conference Big South.

“I’m sure he’ll be an exciting player to watch, given his great power and athleticism as a receiver. If people liked Billy Germaine, they will also appreciate the qualities of Michael Varga. It takes exceptional talent to be a starting receiver in NCAA Division 1.”

Earlier in his career, Michael Verga played for the Florence-Darlington Technical College team in the NJCAA First Division. The receiver won numerous honors there in addition to helping the club win several championships.

With the appointment of Samuel Guilbert as general manager and that of Mathieu Adam as head coach, Mathieu Audet can focus more on his mandate of recruiting international players.

“I can’t wait to evolve with Michael Varga, who is already preparing full time for the next summer season. He is very involved, both on and off the pitch. We will fill our two other available spaces with two launchers, probably including a Japanese one. It is to be continued”, concluded Mathieu Audet.
