VATICAN CITY, 12/01/2022 (KAP) Pope Francis has received an audience with the board of directors of the New York Yankees. Hal Steinbrenner (52) and his companion were allowed to speak to Francis personally on Thursday, as the Vatican announced without giving further details.
Steinbrenner inherited the empire behind the Yankees along with his siblings from their father, George Steinbrenner. Since this year, Yankees Global Enterprises has also owned a share in the Italian football club AC Milan.
The New York Yankees are an American baseball team. They play in the so-called major league and are by far the most successful team in baseball history.
Both Pope Benedict XVI. as well as John Paul II and his predecessor Paul VI. have each celebrated a mass during trips to the USA in the Yankees Stadium in New York.
