Controversy at Barranquilla: Millonarios Players Confront Police after Match with Junior

Millonarios lost 2-1 with Junior in Barranquilla and, at the end of the match, several players went to protest referee Carlos Betancur. Then, a video circulated on social networks in which several members of the squad are seen in what appears to be a brush with members of the Police.

EL TIEMPO consulted with Millonarios sources who were at the Roberto Meléndez stadium and they gave their version of what happened.

“Actually, the problem was not with the Police. When the players were leaving the field, a person, without any identification, a civilian, pushes (Santiago) Giordana. The other players go after the character,” said the source.

“That’s when you see the commotion. What the Police end up doing is containing the team, calmly, actually, and they take away the character who pushed Giordana,” she added.

The people from Millonarios had a conversation with the colonel in charge of the operation and he revealed to them that this person, unrelated to Junior, is an employee of the Barranquilla Mayor’s Office.

The civilian who was on the field and caused the whole problem was detained and given a summons, the Barranquilla Police revealed to members of the Millonarios delegation, in a subsequent call in which they presented excuses for what happened.

The Millonarios source insisted that there was no problem between the Millonarios players and the Police and that there was communication with the lieutenant colonel at all times.

The person in plain clothes who pushed Giordana appears in the video circulating on social networks. He wears a white t-shirt.
