NFL: Zach Wilson will be the reserve of Mike White, Sunday, against Detroit

FLORHAM PARK, NJ — Quarterback Zach Wilson will be in uniform for the first time in four weeks on Sunday.

However, it will be as a reservist that he will be there, during an important duel against the Detroit Lions, at MetLife Stadium.

Confined to the bench by head coach Robert Saleh on November 23 in favor of Mike White, Wilson will replace veteran Joe Flacco as a backup quarterback.

Saleh’s announcement on Wednesday is not trivial, as White is currently plagued with a rib injury.

For now, the Jets expect White to be able to take part in the game, although his participation in practice has been limited.

White’s physical glitch, coupled with Flacco’s disappointing performance on a substitution in last Sunday’s 20-12 loss to the Buffalo Bills, seemed to open the door for Wilson to get that opportunity;

Still, Saleh insisted it was a “coincidence”.

The second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft has been inactive for the past three weeks, and the Jets have spoken of a “reset” (reset) in his case, in order to work on the fundamentals of his game.

“Zach did a great job,” Saleh insisted. He’s taken a very deliberate approach for three weeks. He’s been serious about how he wants to attack in training sessions, he performed well against our defense which is a good defensive unit to play against. He worked on different things that we asked him to do. »

The New Yorkers coach has mentioned a few times that he expects Wilson to play again before the schedule ends, but the window is about to close.

In all likelihood, the Jets (7-6) will continue to rely on Mike White unless they fall further into the AFC playoff picture.
