NBA team Phoenix Suns sells to billionaire Mat Ishbia for record price

This man has ambitious goals – and apparently bought the Phoenix Suns for a record sum. Brittney Griner’s team is one of them.

The Phoenix Suns from the North American basketball professional league NBA apparently have a new owner: As various US media reports, the US billionaire Mat Ishbia is to buy the franchise for the record sum of four billion dollars (around 3.77 billion euros). Also included is the WNBA team Phoenix Mercury around the returned Brittney Griner.

NBA legend Magic Johnson also confirmed on social media that Ishbia, who he played basketball with in college in Michigan, is taking over the team. He had a great phone call with him “to congratulate him on buying the Phoenix Suns,” former Lakers player Johnson wrote on Twitter, warning the NBA competition: “All the other 29 teams better watch out because Mat is a Winner!”

Ishbia is taking over the Arizona team from controversial owner Robert Sarver. He announced the sale of the franchise in September after being banned for a year and fined $10 million for racism and misogyny. Star player LeBron James, among others, then said that there was “no place in our league for such behavior”.
