Neighbors and visitors to the Laguna de La Piedad, located in the neighborhood of the same name in the Mexican municipality of Cuatitlán Izcalli, reported that a specimen of crocodile, a reptile that could even be photographed waking up, has been sighted within this body of water. alert among some complainants.
It was in recent days that the image of the crocodile went viral among social media users, a photograph in which the reptile can be seen on what appears to be a concrete block. The animal appears to be an adult crocodile, approximately just over two meters long.
In the image, the reptile does not appear to be large in size, possibly due to the lack of food that it could not easily find in this body of water that suffers from high levels of pollution. It is precisely this factor that makes visitors fear that they may be attacked by the reptile in search of food.
Residents are accustomed to the presence of a crocodile
The sighting does not seem to surprise the residents who have been living near Laguna de La Piedad for years, who, according to comments expressed on social networks, the presence of this type of reptiles has been present for several years.
Most of the comments demand that the animal not be disturbed, there are even those who claim that these types of animals are defenseless, as long as they are not given reasons to attack. In the midst of all this uncertainty, the municipal authorities have already taken action on the matter.
Authorities begin search for crocodile
After the sighting that sparked great controversy at the beginning of this week, this Thursday municipal authorities of Cuautitlán Izcalli deployed a search operation for the reptile in the lagoon area.
This security operation seeks to safeguard the integrity of the people of Izcalli and animal welfare, which is why personnel from the Municipal Government of Cuautitlán Izcalli are already working in the vicinity of the lagoon in coordination with Civil Protection and Firefighters.
Through its Sustainability and Environment Directorate, the municipal government requested the intervention of the SEMARNAT Wildlife Directorate in order to locate and capture the reptile, which “already has a protection status, so it is “will be captured in accordance with the corresponding protocols.”
