Germany’s longtime star Dirk Nowitzki has argued for the still active LeBron James in the debate about the best basketball player in the world.

“I always say Michael Jordan is the greatest of all time, but when James passes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the all-time scoring list, I kind of run out of arguments for Michael,” said 44-year-old Nowitzki at the Dallas Mavericks Christmas game against the Los Angeles Lakers, for which James is still active. Despite 38 points from James, Dallas won 124:115 (43:54).

“It’s impressive that he can still play like this in his 20th season. His athleticism is incredible, I’m happy for him,” Nowitzki said of James. In the all-time scoring list of the North American professional league NBA, four-time champion James is in second place with 37,758 points. Abdul-Jabbar (38,387 points) is currently 629 points short. James could break the historic record this season.
