MLS: Moïse Bombito is selected by the Colorado Rapids

A Montrealer, Moïse Bombito, was the third pick in the MLS draft on Wednesday.

The defender, who comes from the University of New Hampshire, was selected by the Colorado Rapids.

Bombito, 6’3″, played in 16 games this season. He finished third on the team with four goals, including two game-winners for the Wildcats, who had 11 shutouts on the season.

Bombito was named America East’s Most Outstanding Defenseman and NCAA Second Team All-Star after helping his team rank third across the United States with a 0 goals-against-average ,5.

Bombito was one of eight players named to the Generation Adidas before the draft. These players do not count in the calculation of the salary bills of MLS teams.

Elsewhere, fullback Hamady Diop was the first-ever draft pick by Charlotte, who traded with expansion club St. Louis for the privilege of speaking first.

Canadian Stephen Afrifa was drafted by Sporting Kansas City with the eighth selection as Malcolm Johnston, the brother of former FC Montreal player Alistair Johnson, heard his name spoken 26th in the first round by the New York City F.C.
