In a close vote decided in the final hours, Marquette girls basketball’s Lilly Craig received 363 of 963 total votes to win the honor of being the Times Athlete of the Week on a ballot that also included runners-up Jonathan Moore (Woodland boys basketball), Jenna Setchell (Serena girls basketball) and Chris Peura (Seneca wrestling).
The Times Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Northern Insurance Group, LTD; Jim Boes services; and Christian Reynolds American Family Insurance.
It’s been a solid week for the Crusaders, with Craig playing a starring role, including a 12-point effort in a win over Dwight followed by a 14-point outing against fellow Tri-County Conference foe Midland. .
Next week’s ballot will be available on Sunday via Facebook (The Times Sports) and Twitter (@jtpedelty), with voting continuing until midday Wednesday.

The team has started well this season. What were the keys to Marquette’s success?
Always work hard in training and in matches. Also our competitiveness and our willingness to learn and try new things.
How old were you when you started playing competitive basketball and where did you first play?
I was in CM1 at Wallace.
What is your pre-match routine?
I eat a PB and J and listen to good music. Talk to teammates in the locker room.
What is your best memory made on a basketball court so far?
The Tri-County Conference championship game against Henry last year and his victory.
What’s your favorite Christmas movie?
“ELF”
What’s at the top of your Christmas list this year?
Concert tickets to go with friends. I want to see Hardy, Bailey Zimmerman and Morgan Wallen.
Only one can stay – pizza or tacos?
The tacos are top notch!
What do you enjoy most about being part of the Marquette Academy family?
The environment and the support of everyone here.
Do you already have university projects? If so, do they involve sports activities?
I’m looking at a few colleges, but haven’t picked one yet. I would like to play basketball in college.
