Former Argentina interior Luis Scola has just been named ambassador for the 2023 World Cup, which kicks off on August 25 in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.
The silver medalist with Argentina, to everyone’s surprise, from the last World Cup in China in 2019 will take part in the next World Cup in a new role. Like Dirk Nowitzki and Kobe Bryant in the previous edition, Luis Scola takes on the role of FIBA World Cup ambassador.
A legend of Argentine basketball, he has participated in five editions and 41 World Cup matches, a competition in which he is the second highest scorer in history. Scola was already there when Argentina came close to winning the title at the 2002 World Cup in Indianapolis. Before being part of the gold medalist squad at the Athens Olympics two years later, alongside Manu Ginobili.
“I always wanted to represent Argentina, tried to win tournaments, but the most important thing was to give the best of ourselves, to be good role models and to play for our country. Being part of our golden generation with so many amazing players has also been a very special experience. We have had extraordinary victories. Although there were some disappointing results, we gained more than we lost and we learned many life lessons along the way. »
