Leader Twente waltzes 6-0 over Fortuna Sittard and runs out on Ajax

Leader FC Twente won 6-0 in the home match against Fortuna Sittard and thus increased the lead over Ajax to six points. Twente now has 30 points from 10 games. Twente striker Fenna Kalma added two more goals to her already impressive total: she now has 17 league goals.

Fortuna, the number three in the ranking, was no less than the leader in the opening phase. The Tukkers owed it to keeper Daphne van Domselaar that the team from Sittard did not score. Twente immediately took advantage of the first big opportunity. Suzanne Giesen reached the back line and put back well on the detached Elena Dhont, who scored her fifth goal of the season.

Even after the 1-0, both teams continued to create chances. Fortuna’s Tessa Wullaert in particular was close to a hit, but international Van Domselaar was a real obstacle. Once again the team from Limburg got the lid on the nose. Fenna Kalma shot the first chance she got just past the post, but in the 27th minute she beautifully controlled a deep pass and finished coolly: 2-0.

Three minutes later, Marisa Olislagers decided the match. She curled a twenty-yard free kick beautifully into the top corner, smashing the guests’ last glimmer of hope.

There were fewer chances in the second half, but goal machine Fenna Kalma was not satisfied with one hit. After an hour, she curled a free kick into the top corner to make it 4-0.

In the 74th minute, captain Renate Jansen also made it 5-0 on a pass from Dhont. Fortuna had some small chances for an honorary goal, but instead of 5-1 it became 6-0. Bente Jansen made the 6-0 just in time after she had sent keeper Diede Lemey into the woods and she simply pushed the ball in.

Number 2 in the ranking Ajax will play against PEC Zwolle next Tuesday. The difference between the two teams is now six points. Twente has played one game more.
