Jesse De Preter, lawyer for Martinez: ‘Roberto took us from the Middle Ages to the 21st century’

Jesse De Preter was a guest on the show Completely Football. Roberto Martinez’s lawyer and agent returned in particular to the end of the Spanish coach’s collaboration with the national team.

Robert Martinez is no longer the coach of the Red Devils. A decision that was taken before the World Cup as confirmed by his agent and lawyer Jesse DePreter during the broadcast Completely Football. He was out of contract in a few weeks and he decided not to extend until the World Cup.

This decision was taken in particular because the coach did not see a proposal for an extension coming.

“The decision was taken one or two days after the communication I made about the lies told in the press, when we were talking about extending the contract. Roberto always said that if we wanted to extend it, we had to do it before the competition. So that’s the only reason I reacted is that there was no proposal. Two days later when I left and a few days before the tournament, he told me said in his head that it was over, but he would still have resigned with that result.

For Jesse De Preter, it was therefore a lack of reaction from the Belgian Union which precipitated the choice of Martinez. And the lawyer points out this failure.

Roberto wants to work for the long term. He wanted an atmosphere of stability where there was no discussion of his case.. And if we see on the other side of the table, at the Belgian Union, that it does not want this long term, that is not possible. And as the Belgian Union did not make a decision, Roberto took it.
