For the first time since the World Cup elimination of the Dutch national team against Argentina, Louis van Gaal has made himself heard. He called 3FM Serious Request, gave 1,000 euros to charity and also briefly discussed a possible new job as a coach.

Portugal is looking for a new national coach. Shortly after the World Cup, farewell was said to the chastened Fernando Santos, who had been in charge of Cristiano Ronaldo and co since 2014. Portugal lost to Morocco in the quarter-finals of the World Cup (1-0).

Stop, or one more adventure?

Does Van Gaal, who lives in Portugal, like to succeed Santos? He was asked that question twice. “I’m retired again. But when they call, I listen,” said Van Gaal.

Earlier he received questions about a possible national coachship at Belgium, where Roberto Martínez recently left. “I didn’t flirt with that, and I didn’t flirt with Portugal either,” said Van Gaal. “I received questions about Belgium and then I have to answer.”

The evening of the elimination against Argentina, he also discussed his future. “Basically, I’m quitting, but you don’t know: I don’t think I’m going back, to be honest.”

In principle, Van Gaal stops as a trainer, but leaves the door ajar for his return

So at 3FM Serious Request, Van Gaal donated 1,000 euros to Stichting Het Forgeten Kind. In exchange, he was allowed to play a number. Van Gaal’s choice was another in the World Cup spheres: We love Orangeby Andre Hazes.
