Blind people follow the game in detail with a new initiative of Básquet Girona

The Girona Basketball duel last Sunday in Fontajau had a lot of emotion with a triumph that was not decided until the last quarter and was special, above all, for five users of theONCE who had more facilities than ever to follow their team live. The club launched a broadcast service so that blind people have more information about everything that happens on the court during the matches.

In one ear they wore the earphone that allowed them to listen to the broadcast and the other was free to hear the ambient sound and the speaker’s voice. Clara Vicençjournalist and in charge of narrating the match, explains that “he gave the information they needed to understand the match”, since some details, such as the evolution of the result or of each play, cannot be grasped only through whispers of the pavilion

Vicenç’s voice was particularly important in the decisive moments of the match, in which Fontajau became a pressure cooker. “In the last quarter they were aware of the tension that existed between the same audience and the situation”, he emphasizes.

On Sunday, only a pilot test was carried out, but given the good reception it had among users, the club wants to be able to accommodate more people in the next engagements. “For now the inputs are very good, so the intention is that it has a little more continuity and we want it to be much more open”, he says.
