If you join Al Nassr, will Ronaldo ‘betray’ Portugal?

Lisbon

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly the target of Al Nassr, a Saudi Arabian club. If moving, will CR7 ‘betray’ Portugal at the 2030 World Cup?

Ronaldo, who is now unemployed after leaving Manchester United, is reportedly approached by Al Nassr. The Saudi Arabian club is ready to pay dearly for the Portuguese star.

According to reports, Al Nassr is ready to pay Ronaldo 200 million Euros per year, or around Rp. 3.2 trillion. Behind the expensive contract, there is a heavy role that will also be borne by Ronaldo.

According to the Daily Star, Al Nassr’s contract also asked Ronaldo to become an ambassador for Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2030 World Cup. Ronaldo was asked to promote the Middle Eastern country to host.

Saudi Arabia is indeed planning to host the 2030 World Cup. Because Qatar has already hosted the 2022 edition, Saudi Arabia cannot be the sole host for the 2030 edition. For this reason, Arabs plan to partner with Greece and Egypt as cross-confederation representatives from Asia, Africa , and Europe.

If Saudi Arabia’s plan is a goal, then Ronaldo could face his country in the competition to host. Because, Portugal also plans to advance to host, cooperating with Spain and Ukraine. Portugal had been planning it since 2019, long before Ronaldo was reported to have joined Al Nassr.

Head-to-head Ronaldo vs Portugal in the competition to host could occur at the 2030 World Cup. Of course, the 37-year-old player will become the public enemy of the Portuguese people if he ends up on the Saudi Arabia side in the host selection later.

Cristiano Ronaldo himself is already a legend in Portugal. He holds the record as the owner of the most caps with 196 caps and scored 118 goals. He has also presented the Euro 2016 and UEFA Nations League 2018/2019 trophies. At the World Cup itself, Ronaldo was unable to give a trophy, with the last one running aground in the quarterfinals at the 2022 World Cup.
