Last Wednesday, a few hours before the Christmas party of the Austrian Bundesliga, the traditional club conference and general meeting also took place. Martin Bruckner, Wrabetz’ predecessor, officially resigned from his position on the supervisory board of the Austrian Bundesliga. The SK Rapid has as a successor Alexander Wrabetz called. But this one fell through. Instead, now pulls Roland Daxl from SV Ried surprisingly joined the Bundesliga supervisory board.

Who is late…

According to statements by several meeting participants, Alexander Wrabetz’s short appearance was rather unfortunate and should not have been well received by everyone involved, the APA reported. Like research by 90minuten.at According to statements by two club representatives, Wrabetz came too late at his first meeting. As if that wasn’t enough, the former ORF boss then quietly sat down in his place and didn’t even introduce himself to the other club representatives, although Wrabetz then stood up for election to the supervisory board. There was certainly a need for discussion, since Wrabetz not only made friends with himself during the presidential election campaign with the statement “Yes, I preferred Rapid on television” when he was ORF boss. Daxl, on the other hand, was already a candidate as a successor in the summer if someone left the supervisory board.

According to participants in the meeting, Wrabetz also appeared unprepared for the election. Accordingly, in the course of the meeting, there was a choice between Daxl and Wrabetz – with a better end for the Rieder President. With 7:5 votes, Daxl won the vote of the Bundesliga, especially with the votes of the smaller clubs. In addition to Rapid, Salzburg, Austria Vienna, Sturm Graz and Wolfsberger AC voted for Alexander Wrabetz.

Efforts to limit damage

In any case, Rapid tries to keep the damage small and says opposite 90minuten.at: “SK Rapid has offered to fill the position if the current ex-president Martin Bruckner resigns from the supervisory board. This was not accepted at the last club conference, but of course we will work intensively in all other committees and working groups and support the interests of the Bundesliga and thus all clubs. A constructive and cooperative partnership with the league and clubs is particularly important to the new club management of SK Rapid.”

In any case, this ends a short phase in which Rapid was part of the Bundesliga supervisory board. Bruckner was elected in July 2021 to succeed Markus Kraetschmer, who had left at the time. Before that, the Hütteldorfer were not represented for three years when ex-president Michael Krammer and thus Rapid were missed >> a reminder.
