Hernán Peláez remembers how he met Pelé and tells what he regrets

And W Radio, Peláez recalled an event that happened in approximately 1965. Santos, who had Pelé on his squad, traveled to Bogotá to play one of his many games in the capital, although it was not the same one in which he was expelled.

‘Doctor’ Peláez already worked in radio and went to the Intercontinental hotelin the center of the capital, to seek an interview with who at that time was already considered the best player of the moment.

“I left with my little recorder and at that time there was no security or all that paraphernalia that is now. The team was staying on a floor of the hotel and I took the stairs, not the elevator. I stayed in a corner. 10, 11 in the morning passed and no one showed up,” Hernán recalled.

His savior was another history of Santos and the Brazil National Team: Mauro López de Oliveira, who was captain and was the one who lifted the second World Cup that Pelé won.

“I greeted him and told him that I wanted to interview Pelé. He didn’t say anything to me, he turned and went down the hall. He knocked on a door, Pelé’s, and it is seen that Mauro told him to interview her. They called me there and I remember it as if it were today: I was in white shorts and a t-shirt”, recounted the ‘Doctor’.

57 years have passed since then, but Hernán Peláez is tormented by something. “The emotion was so great that I never saved the recording. How do you think of the big hit and regret that it gives me. I did spread it, but there is no archive, as is customary now, ”she said.
