The Club Brugge player took advantage of his holiday to go to ‘Ally Pally’ and encourage our compatriot against Peter Wright. “Hans sent me a message if I could arrange something,” says Huybrechts. “And of course I arranged a spot backstage.”

Just clear your head with some darts, Hans Vanaken must have thought. With his club Club Brugge, the former Golden Shoe has ended up in a difficult situation. STVV knocked the national champion out of the Croky Cup and yesterday there was a draw against OH Leuven in the final. Trainer Carl Hoefkens seems to have to pay the price for it, although he has not yet been officially fired. The competition is now on hold and so the players are getting some vacation.
Vanaken used those days off to go to London with his partner Lauren Flemings. And since the World Cup darts is played there, Vanaken was looking forward to an evening of darts. “Fortunately, a Belgian played tonight,” said Vanaken for the VTM microphone. “And I’m glad I might have been able to bring luck.”
“Hans sent me a message,” says Huybrechts. “He asked if I could arrange something. I am a big football fan, albeit not of his club (Huybrechts is a fanatical Antwerp fan, ed.), so I arranged a spot backstage. There were many Belgians in the room, so he could watch at ease. We had regular eye contact during the match, Hans also encouraged. It was great.”
Vanaken therefore seemed to have brought Huybrechts luck. One problem: he has to go to Belgium again for the match between Huybrechts and Van den Bergh. “I will call Club Brugge that he still has to stay”, Huybrechts joked.
