German Team Championship – Lomb is fifth with Bad Homburg

Senftenberg (oz/pf) – Last weekend, the German team championship for the U18 age group took place in Senftenberg. Konstantin Lomb from the 1st Fulda Judo Club strengthened the team of the Homburger Turnergemeinde 1846 eV and, after seven team matches, fought with the team for an excellent fifth place at national level.

After a two-year Corona break, the time had finally come again: The German team championship for the U18 age group, an absolute highlight in the youth sector, took place in Senftenberg in Brandenburg. 23 well-known German clubs fought for the coveted title. Also present was Konstantin Lomb from the 1st Fulda Judo Club, who had already won the Oberliga in autumn with the men’s team from the Homburg Turnergemeinde (HTG). In Senftenberg, HTG provided a team of ten “homegrown talents”, reinforced by Adrian Keller (TSG Northwest) and Konstantin Lomb. In the team competitions, the aim was to win as many of the six individual fights as possible in the different weight classes -50kg, -55kg, -60kg, -66kg, -73kg and +73kg.

The HTG team got off to a good start with a 4:2 win against the Judoclub Leipzig. In the second encounter against THEilbeck they had to admit defeat with 1:5. Now in the consolation round, the young team showed a strong reaction and marched through three fights against the Leipziger Sportlöwen and four against TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen, each with a clear 6:0 victory. In fight five you faced the Hessian rival, the fight community Kim-Chi Wiesbaden/Blue Gold Giessen. In an exciting encounter with points on both sides, only the last weight class decided the team fight with 4:2 for the Homburg gymnastics community. In the sixth fight for entry into the small final, the fighting community SFK ShidoSha / SC Bushido Berlin was waiting for the Bad Homburg. With another 4:2 win you deservedly made it into the small final. The six previous fights had left their mark and so unfortunately they had to accept a 1:5 defeat against Sport Union Annen in the fight for bronze.

At the end of a long and exhausting day, the Homburg Turnergemeinde 1846 eV achieved an excellent fifth place at national level. The coaching team Markus Schmitt (HTG) and Mike Thiel (1. Fuldaer JC) was impressed by the performance of their protégés. “To perform so well against the well-known and large clubs with affiliated sports boarding schools was very strong. The mood in the team was great, everyone pushed each other and motivated them to do their best,” summarized Thiel. A successful end of the year for the U18s, who will again be on the mat together in the Judo Oberliga (men) next year.
