Francis Roig stops training at Christmas

After 18 years with Rafael Nadal as a coach, Francis Roig has ended its collaboration with the former world number 1 in which it began with Toni Nadal and then continued with Carlos Moya and last season with the addition of Marc Lopez with whom he won Olympic doubles gold at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.

“For me it has been a real pleasure and honor to work with Rafa and the rest of the team. We never thought we could get so many results and have such a long career with him, but Rafa is a phenomenon and he makes everything seem easy. I have taken this decision after thinking about it a lot and I understand that the time has come to start a new project”, highlighted red that he will start a new stage in his professional career as a coach.

“I only have words of gratitude to Rafa and my teammates for all these years together, learning, working and making Rafa what he is, a sports legend. Friendship remains and we will see each other and enjoy ourselves, as we have always done, for the circuit”, said the Catalan coach who has collaborated, since 2004, in all of Nadal’s successes, including the 22 Grand Slams and the 93 titles he has won in his career so far.

Nadal He has been grateful to Roig’s work in all these years. “Francis has been an important person in my career. When we started working together with my uncle Toni, I was a child”, he has valued on his Twitter account. “Francis is a great coach who knows tennis very well and has helped me a lot to get better and better. I wish him all the luck in the world in his new project.”
