Eneko Llanos (Vitoria, 1976) will say goodbye to professional triathlon in 2023. This was reported by the athlete from Alava himself on his Instagram account. “This next season will definitely be the last,” he announces. “Being realistic, I have not been triathlon my main profession for a while now,” argues the man from Vitoria, who has a position as a firefighter in the City Hall of the Álava capital.

His goal is clear, enjoy this last season. «It is going to be a great farewell year, focused above all on the tests closest to the ones I have the most affection for. With the maximum aspiration to enjoy, the same aspiration that has been the foundation of my sports career, “reflects the youngest of the Llanos, who, yes, has no intention of disappearing from the sports scene.

“It is a point and apart,” he says. He will continue in his role as coach, “without ruling out putting on a number from time to time”, even if it is in a more amateur and playful way. Eneko thus says goodbye to almost three decades dedicated to triathlon. He started in 1991 with his brother, Héctor, and the bond was strengthened in 1995, when he was proclaimed junior Spanish champion.

From there came the participation in the Olympic Games (Sydney and Athens), the titles of European champion and Ironman world runner-up… And a whole legendary career that will put the finishing touch in 2023.
