Elkan Baggott Scores a Goal, Indonesia’s Danger Sign in the AFF Cup

Jakarta, CNNIndonesia

Goals scored Elkan Baggott with Gillingham in the FA Cup could be a red flag for Indonesian National team in the 2022 AFF Cup.

Gillingham won 3-2 over Dagenham and Redbridge in the second round of the FA Cup at the MEMS Prestfield Stadium, Friday (9/12) early morning WIB.

One of Gillingham’s goals was scored by Elkan Baggott, defender of the Indonesian national team. Baggott scored a 26th-minute equalizer that made the score 1-1.

After a fierce battle, Gillingham won dramatically 3-2 through Hakeem Adelakun’s late goal in the 90+5 minute.

Victory over Dagenham and Redbridge brought Gillingham to qualify for the third round of the FA Cup against Premier League representatives, Leicester City on January 7, 2023.

Gillingham’s escape into the third round of the FA Cup could be a danger signal for the Indonesian national team. That match was crucial for Gillingham, so that the Red and White Team could be without Baggott in the 2022 AFF Cup.

Looking at the 2022 AFF Cup schedule, the tournament between Southeast Asian countries will enter the first leg semifinals on 6-7 January 2023.

So far there has been no official statement from PSSI and the Indonesian National Team regarding the certainty of using Elkan Baggott’s services at the 2022 AFF Cup. However, Shin Tae Yong included Baggott’s name in the players who attended the training camp (TC) in Bali.

Baggott said he was going to Indonesia at the end of this year. However, Gillingham itself still has a busy schedule.

Apart from playing matches in League 2, Neil Harris’ team will also face another Premier League club, Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English League Cup or Carabao Cup on December 21.
