CLara Azurmendi and Beatriz Corrales cherished the Canadian International Challenge doubles title. The Spanish duo lost to the American twins Annie and Kerry Xu in three tight sets (21-15, 15-21 and 14-21).
Although the North Americans tried to take the initiative, Azurmendi and Corrales were quick to regain the advantage and take the lead, thanks to a partial 5-0 that allowed them to get ahead at the interval (11-7). The Spanish took advantage of their good dynamics to stay ahead at all times and close the first game 21-15.
The Xu sisters’ reaction came in the second set, where they took the lead (7-11) and the Spanish failed to come back (15-21).
Azurmendi and Corrales regained control of the match from the beginning of the third game. The equality was maximum and the Xu once again took the initiative to reach the interval with an advantage (10-11). The Spanish did not give up but made several unforced errors that gave wings to their rivals. A 5-0 run by the North Americans was insurmountable (14-21).
