The number one tennis player in the ATP world ranking, Carlos Alcaraz,
which will be held from April 15 to 23, the tournament organizers announced this Thursday.
“Alcaraz is the first tennis player confirmed for the next edition of the tournament,” the organization said in a statement.
The 19-year-old Spanish tennis player had won his first Barcelona Tournament title this year by beating his compatriot Pablo Carreño in the final by a resounding 6-3, 6-2.
“Carlos Alcaraz is a unique player, with a lot of charisma and who also has fun on the court. He has exceptional conditions to be able to dominate the point against any rival and that makes him different from any other player,” said the tournament’s sports director, David Ferrer, quoted in the statement.
“And we are talking about a world number one who was the youngest in history to do so. He still has a whole career ahead of him to continue improving and developing as a player. He will be the great dominator of the circuit for the next ten years, without no doubt,” added Ferrer.

It is worth remembering that Alcaraz ended this 2022 at the top of international tennis after winning the ATP 500 in Rio de Janeiro, the Masters 1,000 in Miami, the ATP 500 in Barcelona, the Masters 1,000 in Madrid and the US Open.
In addition, he also qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals, but an abdominal injury prevented him from fighting to win his first title in this tournament that brought together the best tennis players on the men’s circuit this year.
