Boston no longer wants to lose Al Horford and extends him… for life?

To say that a year and a half ago we thought Al Horford finished, or not far away… The Dominican was vegetating in a closet in Oklahoma City, waiting for an ambitious team to get him out of there. This team was Boston, for a comeback that turned out to be much more productive than we could have thought at the time. Horford regained his 20-year-old legs and was one of the anchors of a group he played in the NBA Finals with in 2022.

Brad Stevens no longer wants to risk losing the five-time All-Star as in 2019, when he flew to Philly. Suddenly, as announced by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Al Horford has just signed a two-year contract extension, until 2025, for 20 million in all.

Horford, 36, obviously no longer has the same statistical impact as in his best seasons in the NBA, but his presence and his leadership are still important. The ex-Florida Gator plays 31 minutes per game on the team with the best record in the league, for 10.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 55.5% of address.
