ATP, Australian Open > Alex De Minaur: “I’m not really one of those guys who just do third or fourth rounds in Grand Slams, you know”

Promised to a future as a potential Grand Slam winner in 2019, the year of his explosion on the circuit where he participated in five finals for three trophies, Alex De Minaur has since struggled to confirm. Current 24e and a maximum of 15e world player in 2021, the Australian has also played only one small career quarter-final, at the US Open in 2020.

Interviewed by Tennis Australiathe now 23-year-old player intends to correct this lack of significant performance in 2023.

“I’m not really one of those guys who just do third, fourth round Slams, you know. I really want to be at the heart of these tournaments and play the best in the world for the title. I am very excited about the Australian Open. As I have often said in the past, this is by far the best time of the year. I’m really looking forward to playing in front of an Aussie crowd again, something I’ve completely missed all year. I hope I can start the year with a good tournament at the AO. »
