The Portuguese Parliament condemns the World Cup in Qatar
The Portuguese Parliament has approved a resolution condemning the World Cup in Qatar, the human rights violations in the country and the environmental crimes committed to organize the championship, six days after the elimination of the Portuguese team.
The document condemns “human rights violations in Qatar, mainly the labor exploitation of migrant workers, the rights of women and the LGBTI communityincluding the responsibilities of FIFA”, as well as environmental crimes.
The proposal, presented by the PAN animalist party, was supported by the majority of the chamberincluding the ruling Socialist Party, and with the abstention of the PSD (centre-right) and the rejection of the far-right Chega.
