A mayor prohibited the sale of alcohol this Sunday during the World Cup final in Qatar

A municipality in the interior of the country decided to prohibit the sale of alcohol during the final of the Qatar 2022 World Cup between Argentina and France, which will be played tomorrow. “We want to inform you that from the Government of Venado Tuerto we have ordered the prohibition of the sale of alcohol to all businesses, from 12 to 20 next Sunday the 18th,” Mayor Leonel Chiarella announced on his social networks. Then he warned: “We’re not going to let the usual misfits ruin our gatherings.”.

According to the municipal communication, for this Sunday there will even be a security operative reinforced in the commune with more than 100 policemen in the surroundings of Plaza San Martín, the epicenter of the city.

Chiarella’s surprise measure occurs after the serious incidents last Tuesday, during the effervescence and celebrations in Venado Tuerto before the victory of the Argentine National Team after the 3-0 victory against Croatia, in the semifinal phase. That day, the city was overwhelmed by lack of control and euphoria. There was several people arrested and at least seven injured, among them, a 12-year-old girl and three policemen. Some had to be transferred to the Dr. Alejandro Gutiérrez Hospital.

Unlike what happened in other parts of the country, where the festivities were peaceful, in Venado Tuerto, the euphoria led to a pitched battle with violence and destruction.

It all started in the center of the Santa Fe town, at the intersection of Belgrano and 25 de Mayo streets, right in the center. Groups of fans confronted the police and municipal traffic agents. The incidents were recorded on videos, where fans are seen jumping on the police patrol car.

Upon the arrival of the security personnel, the fans of the National Team threw stones and bottles, causing injuries to some uniformed officers. The police forces responded to the vandalism with shots from rubber bullets.

The incidents on Tuesday made it clear that the controls and the design of the prevention operation were overwhelmed by the actions of the “organized” violent, said the mayor. The origin of the excesses, according to Chiarella, would be originated in “a fight originated between bars of local clubs, They are generally young people who do not understand that it is a time to enjoy each other and be united.”.

“It is a confrontation between neighborhoods and city teams, we believe that it was the trigger for the fight.
