The attentive listener heard Peter Vandenbempt talk about Christmas garlands very early for the time of year during Belgium-Canada. For a special reason, he told Kawtar & Keyaert on MNM: “My daughter sometimes gives me words that I have to say during the competition.”
“The Belgians can’t hang the first Christmas garland on the tree yet.”
Those were the exact words of commentator Peter Vandenbempt last night during Belgium-Canada. Certainly not an everyday expression, but there is a logical explanation for that.
At MNM, Vandenbempt revealed his figurative language in this and other competitions this morning. “People occasionally send me a silly word that I have to process in my comments.”
“My daughter had now passed on ‘Christmas garland’ to me. But I don’t always do it naturally, otherwise people won’t stop.”
